July Birthstones

The beautiful ruby is the traditional birthstone of those born in July. And who wouldn’t enjoy a gem that is associated with passion, good fortune, love and vitality, while also being so visually appealing with its red hues, and when cut correctly, lots of sparkle. Fortunately, though, if red is not your colour or rubies don’t particularly resonate with you, there are several other lesser-known stones that are also considered to be in the July birthstone category. Black Onyx, Topaz and Agates which cover a broad colour spectrum are fantastic alternatives.

Black Onyx is a favourite for those seeking to wear a protective stone which absorbs negative energy and promotes qualities such as strength and perseverance, and with its rich black shine tends to coordinate well with pretty much all other colours.

Topaz on the other hand is a beautiful clear (sometimes referred to as white) transparent stone, which can also be found incorporating hues of different colours such as orange, yellow, blue, pink, red and green. Each variety provides its own nuanced energy, but the topaz family is thought to symbolize some pretty awesome things like joy, affection, contentment and happiness, making it a special stone to wear.

And last, but certainly not least, one of our favourites here at Curio, agates. We love agates so much because of the breadth of natural colours and varieties that occur in the agate family. Some of the most popular varieties are blue lace and crazy lace, fire, banded and moss. If you are looking for specific colours or colour combinations, agates can be found incorporating pretty much all the colours of the rainbow, so despite the traditional birth colour of July being Red, agates give you the option to choose a July birthstone that resonates with your personal colour preferences. As with Topaz, the properties agates represent vary to a degree on their colour, but the Agate family overall is said to represent spiritual growth and protection.

So, whatever your style and colour preferences, there are a lot of alternatives to explore if you are wanting to wear jewellery that is connected with your July birth month.

Happy Birthday to all you Julyians out there.
