Information Mine - Labradorite

Labradorite was first identified in Labrador, Canada in the 18th century, hence the name. However, appreciation and uses for this amazing stone reach much further around the globe and within a variety of cultures. Indeed, the Inuit people felt that it was a physical manifestation resulting from the trapping of the Northern Lights because of its shimmering, iridescent qualities, in particular the blue and green flash that can be found in many pieces, although it is not uncommon to find labradorite with flashes of other colours such as pink, purple and gold.

Labradorite can also be found in Mexico, Russia and Finland, and is universally thought of as a highly spiritual stone with powerful metaphysical properties. This, both historically and currently has made Labradorite a popular stone to wear as jewellery, as a talisman and in meditation. And there is no doubt than when you look at a colourful piece of labradorite, the way the colours and shapes change and form you do almost make you feel like you are entering a different world.

Because of its unique beauty and qualities, it has come to be associated with protection and as a repellent for negative energy , beyond this it is also seen as a conduit for growth, intuition, psychic ability and spiritual connection. And even if that kind of thing, isn’t your thing, it looks and feels absolutely stunning to wear! In fact, I must say, among my most favourite pieces, my labradorite pendant is the one that people most commonly stop me in the street about and ask what it is. So, if you are having a quiet, reclusive day, it’s best to just stick to using it in the home, but if you want to let the lights shine, wear that shimmering, protective, goodness out into the world.

Love and Light
